Academic entry requirements
  • GPA 2.75 on a US 4.0 scale
  • 2 years of the same foreign language, 2 years of a natural or physical science, including a laboratory science, 3 years of social sciences, 3 years of mathematics (Algebra I, Algebra II and geometry or equivalents), 4 years of English
  • Additional requirements and recommendations depending on major

  • Global Gateway Program: TOEFL iBT 55, IELTS 5.5, or 5.5 Password Test - you can take this test for free
  • Direct entry to a bachelor's degree: minimum TOEFL iBT 90 or IELTS 6.5

Undergraduate Study for International Students

The Global Gateway Program for Undergraduate Study is a 1, 2, or 3-term pathway that prepares you to continue your degree at UVM.

The length of your GGP depends on your level of English. All courses are taught by distinguished UVM faculty and you will gain the course credits you need to advance to your undergraduate degree. Throughout your GGP our CareerAhead service provides dedicated support to help you achieve your future goals.

Pre-Master’s Program

Pre-Master's Program

The PMP is a 2-term pathway in which you earn 12 graduate credits in your chosen master’s program while increasing your language proficiency.

You can choose between 10 degree options, all taught by prestigious UVM faculty. You’ll take four courses per semester, including two taught with other graduate students. During your degree, you will earn 24 credits in the 2-term program - 12 of these credits count towards your full graduate degree.

Direct Admission: Bachelor's Degrees

Your Degree From a Top 100 University

After successfully completing your Global Gateway Program you can progress to the second term of Year 1 or to Year 2 of your bachelor’s degree.

You need to complete the full Global Gateway Program, gaining 14-15 academic credits in the 1-term Global Gateway Program or 28-30 credits in the 2-term GGP (equivalent to Year 1 of your bachelor’s degree). You must also maintain the minimum Grade Point Averages (GPA).

Minimum grade requirements:

  • 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • 3.2 cumulative GPA for progression into the Grossman School of Business
  • B- or better average on final term English language courses
  • Direct entry to a bachelor's degree: minimum TOEFL iBT 90 or IELTS 6.5

Your Degree Options

You can enroll in one of over 100 undergraduate degrees. Bachelor’s degrees are taught across seven colleges and schools by faculty who are internationally recognized for their research – 90% of faculty at UVM hold a PHD or the highest degree in their field.

Earn Your Master's at a Top University

After successfully completing your Pre-Master's Program you can progress to one of nine master's degrees. You need to complete the full Pre-Master's Program, achieving the required level of proficiency while maintaining the minimum Grade Point Average (GPA).

Minimum grade requirements:

  • Oral test proficiency level equivalent to direct admit requirement
  • 3.0 GPA in UVM coursework
